Life History

C. vancouveriensis at a low tide along with polyps of the sea anemone A. elegantissima. Note the amount of water that is retained on this mostly vertical rock face by these two groups.

As with the other coralline red algae, this species has an isomorphic triphasic life history. The tetrasporangia are zonate and formed in axial conceptacles (van den Hoek et al 1995).
