INDICES, LISTS AND VARIOUS SUB-CLASSIFICATIONS

I. Indexes based on the entire Romancero tradition:

• CATALOG NUMBERS Cross-reference the various catalog numbers used to identify any ballad in commonly cited XIXth-XXth cent. catalogs (Primavera, Goyri, Moñino, Armistead's CMP, Costa Fontes, Gonález, etc.).
• TITLES   or   IGR # : List of Hispanic ballads (ancient and modern), ordered by title or by their unique IGRH numbers.
• ALTERNATE TITLES :  List of other common titles for Hispanic ballads (ancient and modern), in all languages of the tradition (including first verses), referenced to the standardized titles used in this project.
• PAN-EUROPEAN TITLES :  Alphabetical listing of Pan-European titles, cross-referenced to their Pan-Hispanic congeners.
• THEMATIC CATEGORIES :  Consult a list of ballads belonging to major thematic categories (Carolingian, of national historical referent [sub-classified: Cid ballads, Trastámara period, period of the Catholic Kings, ...], moriscos, biblical, classical, etc.).
• CONTAMINATIONS (Ballads that borrow narrative material) :  Identify modern historical ballads which borrow narrative/poetic material.
• CONTAMINATIONS (Ballads that lend narrative material):  Identify modern historical ballads which lend narrative/poetic material to other ballads.
• PROTAGONISTS:  Identify ballads with a common protagonist (those involving an historical or legendary figure).
• MOTIF :  Indexs of Folk Motifs in the Pan-Hispanic Ballad. Enhanced, online implementations of Harriet Goldberg's Stith Thompson-based Motif-Index of Folk Narratives in the Pan-Hispanic Romancero.
  • Index I: Index of motifs linked to ballad texts that make use of them (motifs by category → ballads).
  • Index II: Alphabetical list of motifs and the ballads that make use of them (individual motifs → ballads).
  • Index III: Motifs present in any Hispanic ballad (ballads → motifs).
• PRINT SOURCE(S):  Identify the documentary sources (romanceros, cancioneros and pliegos) of ballads that appeared before the XVIIth century.
• JOURNAL ABBREVIATIONS AND ACRONYMS:  Key to journal acronyms used in the Bibliography.

II. Indexes generated using only the versions of ballads currently available in this archive:

• BALLAD TITLE INDEX:  Ballads currently available in the online database (unique titles list).
• BALLAD TITLE+METER INDEX:  Ballads currently available online, using assonance as well as title to identify unique ballads.
• IGR NUMBERS:  Ballads currently available online, ordered sequentially by their unique IGR numbers.
• THEMATIC CATEGORIES:  Retrieve versions of ballads that correspond to certain major thematic categories (Carolingian ballads, ballads with national, historical reference [subclassified: Cid ballads, Trastámara period, period of the Catholic Kings, etc.], biblical ballads, etc.).
• MOTIF INDEXES:  Index of Folk Motifs in the Pan-Hispanic Ballad. See the Motifs section above. If the versions identified are in the ballad archive of this project, they are available directly via the link to 'Textos' in Indexes I and II.
• FIRST VERSES:  Alphabetical list of first verses of all ballad versions currently in the online database.
• LAST VERSES:  Alphabetical list of last verses of all ballad versions currently in the online database
• REFRAINS:   Alphabetical list of refrains (estribillos) used in the versions currently stored in the ballad archive.
• INVOCATIONS:   Alphabetical list of invocations used in the versions currently stored in the ballad archive.
• COUNTRIES REPRESENTED:  List of countries currently represented in the ballad database.
• SAMPLE TEXTS:  Retrieve a single version of each ballad currently stored in the online archive. To view one or more versions of a particular ballad, search instead using Title as a search criteria in the ballad text archive.
• BALLADS NOT PRESENT:  Alphabetical list of ballads not yet represented in the online archive. The same list ordered by IGR numbers.
