Welcome to PacTrans!

The Pacific Northwest Transportation Consortium (PacTrans) is the Regional University Transportation Center (UTC) for Federal Region 10. PacTrans focuses on using technological advances to develop data-driven, sustainable solutions for the diverse transportation needs of the Pacific Northwest. Major goals and objectives of PacTrans include serving as Region 10’s research engine, applied technology showcase, workforce development base, education leader, information center, and collaboration platform. PacTrans is a consortium of transportation professionals and educators from five universities located around the Pacific Northwest: Oregon State University (OSU), the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF), University of Idaho (UI), University of Washington (UW), and Washington State University (WSU). In our most recent grant, PacTrans has also added two educational partners in Boise State University (BSU) and Gonzaga University (GU).

Our Website is structured to give you an easy and enjoyable experience. Components are as follows:

About Us – Here we introduce you to who we are and where we come from. We also introduce our staff, our board, and others who help us continue to provide the best transportation research, education, and development in the country.

Research – Research is at the very core of PacTrans. This tab is both for those interested in conducting research funded by PacTrans as well as those looking to review research that has already been funded by PacTrans. This section defines that different types of projects we fund and lays out the process for completing timely and excellent research.

Education and Workforce Development – One of PacTrans’ highest priorities is equipping students and practitioners with the skills and knowledge needed to go out into the world and help make transport safer and more efficient. This tab explores the breadth of ways PacTrans is involved in this vital process.

Partnerships and Technology Transfer – Along with education and workforce development, a key role that PacTrans facilitates is making sure that good research makes it into the hands of those who can put it to real use. PacTrans does this through a strong network of partnerships as well as allocating researchers additional funds to disseminate their findings to the appropriate practitioners.

Publications – PacTrans is a regional transportation center for federal region 10, accountable to the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology and Research (OST-R). In that vein, we are accountable to produce a number of reports for them. Meanwhile, PacTrans also produces its own series of publications to showcase our work. All of these publications are better defined and exist in this tab.

News & Events – This page will keep you up-to-date on everything going on at PacTrans; recent past, present, and the future.
