Applications now open for Washington Transportation Camp 2024!

Do you know a high school student itching for a STEM-packed summer adventure? Look no further!

Applications are now open for the summer 2024 Washington Transportation Camp.

WA Transportation Camp is a FREE one-week residential summer program covering transportation topics such as urban planning, traffic safety, supply chain logistics, and the cutting-edge realm of connected and autonomous vehicles. Students will:

    • Take field trips with professionals to transportation facilities like the Northwest Region Transportation Management Center to gain insight into their inner workings.
    • Showcase their new-found knowledge in collaborative group projects.
    • Make new friends and experience life on a college campus.
    • Explore the potential for a future career in transportation—whether it’s in engineering, planning, or beyond.

The Washington Transportation Camp (formerly the PacTrans-WSDOT Summer High School Transportation Camp) aims to inspire and empower young minds, particularly those from underrepresented groups, to pursue advanced degrees and careers in STEM-related fields associated with transportation. Through immersive experiences at prestigious institutions like Washington State University (WSU) and the University of Washington (UW), the program provides hands-on learning opportunities and fosters a supportive environment for students to explore their potential.

This year, we are offering two summer sessions; applicants should choose the location and date that aligns best with their schedule:

    Washington State University
    Pullman, WA – July 21-26, 2024

    University of Washington
    Seattle, WA – August 4-9, 2024

The camps, completely sponsored by PacTrans and WSDOT, focus on reaching minority youth, young women, and disadvantaged individuals, the program aims to broaden participation and inspire students from diverse backgrounds to consider transportation-related vocations. By nurturing a STEM-capable workforce and emphasizing inclusivity, the program not only benefits individual participants but also contributes to the overall innovation and resilience of the transportation industry.
