Join MAPS this Thursday as we mark the

beginning of Black History Month

by discussing mental health issues in the African-American community,

and how you can best advocate for patients with mental health disorders as a future health professional.

Mental health disorders affect all communities, yet often do not get talked about in private or public spaces.

Our special guest speaker will be Stephen Riggins, M.Ed., who has served as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Harborview Medical Center for 18 years, and currently counsels U.S. veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. Bring an open mind to learn about all aspects of a patient’s wholistic health, how to be a culturally competent health care provider, to explore another rewarding branch of health care professions, and any questions you may have for our guest speaker!

Light snacks will be provided. See you Thursday!
