The University of Washington Specialized Center of Research in Pharmacology of Drugs in Pregnancy (UW SCOR; supported by NICHD and ORWH) announces $10,000 for one year of research for projects on pharmacology of drugs in pregnancy or sex related differences in the pharmacology of drugs

Eligibility

  1. Applicants should be affiliated with the University of Washington, Children’s Hospital, Veterans Hospital or Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
  2. Proposals should pursue novel research opportunities to obtain data that could serve as the basis of a major research grant application in the area of pharmacology of drugs in pregnancy or sex related differences in the pharmacology of drugs.
  3. Applications that are synergistic or complementary to existing projects within the UW SCOR will receive higher priority. For information of these projects see http://depts.washington.edu/uwscor.
  4. The 2005-6 recipients of the award may re-apply for new projects or continuation of their funded projects.

Funds Available

  1. Two to three projects will be awarded, $10,000/project. Under extraordinary circumstances up to $20,000 for a single project will be allowed.
  2. Projects with departmental matching funds will receive higher priority (a letter from the departmental Chair confirming match must be attached).
  3. Junior, women, and minority faculty members are particularly encouraged to apply.
  4. Postdoctoral fellows cannot be Principal Investigators, but may receive support via faculty sponsors. In this case, supporting letters from faculty sponsors detailing laboratory, salary, and other support must be provided.
  5. No salary (including that of the PI) or indirect costs are allowed.

Application Procedure

  1. A one-paragraph letter or e-mail of intent to apply outlining the research proposal should be sent to Laura Ferrara (below) by May 15, 2006..
  2. Applications should follow the NIH format (including first year budget, biosketches/other support, abstract etc.) and should be submitted by June 1, 2006.
  3. The text of the grant, beginning with the Specific Aims page, must not exceed 5 pages (excluding references).
  4. Applicants may suggest 2-4 reviewers in their cover letter.
  5. If animals or human subjects are involved, approval from IACUC or Human Subjects Committee is not necessary at the time of applications but must be obtained prior to the release of funds. However, these approvals must be obtained as soon as possible, for the availability of the funds will expire on July 1, 2007.
