The Culture, Diversity, and Health Lab!

Welcome to the Culture, Diversity, and Health Lab (CDH Lab) at the University of Washington!  Our research, which lies at the intersection of social and health psychology, explores how cultural, social, and psychological factors shape the health and well-being of people from diverse backgrounds. A lot of the lab’s work focuses on identifying what factors promote health among people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds and on using this knowledge to understand and address health disparities.

Current projects in the lab explore questions such as:

  • Does changing schools, workplaces, or other contexts to make them more inclusive improve the health of people from underrepresented or stigmatized backgrounds?
  • Does exposure to inequality harm the health of people in lower status groups? Does exposure to equality improve their health?
  • What messages promote healthy behavior among people from diverse backgrounds?

Are you a UW undergraduate looking for Research Assistant opportunities? We have filled all of our research assistant slots for the spring 2019 quarter, but please check back closer to the winter 2020 quarter.

Check out our new research showing that students of color have better health when they attend schools that emphasize the value of diversity in PNAS! The article is here, and the supplementary materials are here.
