A study presented at the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery’s annual meeting found that GLP-1 agonist medications, such as semaglutide, can help extremely obese patients lose enough weight to meet criteria for bariatric surgery. Dr. Phil Schauer said combining anti-obesity drugs led to the greatest weight loss, making surgery feasible for those previously deemed too high-risk.
