Vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids do not improve kidney function at five years in patients with type 2 diabetes, according to findings from the VITAL-DKD ancillary study presented in the American Society of Nephrology's Kidney Week 2019 and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Using data from 1,312 participants with a mean age of 67.6 years at baseline, the researchers found no significant difference in the mean estimated glomerular filtration rate between baseline and five years in groups who received omega-3, vitamin D3 or both and the placebo groups.
