Waist-to-hip ratio tied to all-cause mortality risk

Research involving 387,672 UK Biobank participants found that waist-to-hip ratio was more consistently linked to all-cause mortality than measures of BMI and fat mass index, according to the findings published in JAMA Network Open. Those with genetically determined waist-to-hip ratio had the strongest association with all-cause mortality, researchers say, adding that their “results provide further support to shift public health focus from measures of general adiposity, such as BMI, to adiposity distribution using WHR."
