Anjan Sundaram, Indian Journalist, interviewed on Democracy Now! on 8  June 2023,  says that the ‘colonial structure of global media’ under-reports some of the biggest wars in our world today.  He notes that despite technological advances in information access and technology, “conflicts like the one on the Central African Republic are still shrouded in darkness, and we often don’t know the perpetrators, who is attacked, or why.” It is striking that the press has “enormous blind spots in places like the Central African Republic (CAR) or the Democratic Republic of Congo, where nearly 6 million people have died since — been killed in the war since 1996.” He discusses how French colonialism in CAR repressed the Muslim populations, who made a bid for power in 2013. The government response, aided by the notorious Wagner Goup, has been brutal, with “ethnic cleansing” of the Muslims, reducing their population in the country by nearly half. And the Wagner Group is exploiting hundreds of millions of dollars worth of diamonds and gold to finance its war in Ukraine.
