Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint

liheBOD

Taking this questionnaire was very eye opening for me. Not only did I realize carbon can come from many places but I was also able to see where I use too much of things and where I can improve. The two places I had the highest numbers were home and transportation. Sometimes I use too much energy. For example, I often forget to turn the light off when I leave a room and I also use the AC and heater a lot. Those were not the only ways I contributed to my carbon footprint. Food? I had no idea that some foods contribute to that. I think something I'll do now is educate myself and learn more about foods that don't contribute as much carbon. I might even be able to make a change inside my household. Something we do that I think also makes up a huge part is garbage. We are a family of 5 and we go through A LOT of garbage a week. We use many things and just have a lot of waste. Something I'll do about this is to try and be more thoughtful of what I throw away and what I can reuse. As for transportation, I'm not surprised it's high. Although I don't live that far from school, I do travel a lot throughout the week. I don't go anywhere too far but my siblings play sports, my parents have errands, we do grocery shopping, we visit family at least 3 times a week, and obviously work and school. This all adds up and makes up a lot of my carbon contribution. If I want to do better on this earth I can drive less and maybe carpool. This is what I took away from my footprint results and plan on making changes to my everyday lifestyle!
