Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Throwing away aluminum can in trash can

kentucky_bound10

This past weekend, anonymous threw away a aluminum can in the trash can. I didn't notice that the aluminum can was in the trash can until I saw something red that had Coca-Cola on it. I was like, What is this thing doing in here?. It should be recycled instead of put into the trash can because the world is getting contaminated with things that are supposed to be recycled instead of being thrown away in the trash can. This can save alot of energy and it can save the atmosphere by not releasing all the chemicals that the aluminum can has. The incineration of the can also release other chemicals into the atmosphere and can possibly produce leachate, which can seep into the groundwater and contaminate the water. So I picked the can out of the trash can, rinsed it out with water, and put it into the recycling bin. Although it was nasty going through the trash can, I saved the Earth by recycling an item that should have been recycled.
