Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

One way we can save water at home is to take shorter showers.

Another way to save water is to reuse grey water for watering plants, and turning the water off while you brush your teeth can make a big impact on water consumption over time.

During a drought we should dig up lawns and other plants that are very reliant on water.  Another option would be to use less electricity, this would help because power plants use thousands of gallons a day to cool down their machines from getting over heated.

Today, there are cranes with motion detectors that automatically closes the water , if you remove your hands . This is a very convenient way to conserve water because the tap touch supplies water only to the extent of your need .

We can try to save water by using 'waste' water to water your plants or to be used in the toilet, we can get more drought-resistant plants to decorate our backyards, and we can also try to do simpler things, like taking sailor showers, turning off the water as we brush our teeth or wash our hands.
Turning off lights when we leave a room is also important to save energy, as energy is sometimes made with fossil fuels, which can pollute the water and make it so that there is less for everyone, even nature.

We can get rain water and directly filter it and put it in the water heater, You can use waste water even for drinking if you filter it. We can take short showers. I personally use a timer in the shower.  We should use cacti  and desert like plants.

You can fix leaks if you have any leaks from sinks or showers. When you wash your clothes in the washing machine or when you're washing the dishes you should make sure the washing machine is full to save water. Instead of plastic water bottles, use a reusable bottle.

To save water at home, it's the little things that count. For example, turning off the sink while brushing you teeth, saving shower water with a bucket while that water warms up, and using reusable cups around the house help greatly. Although it doesn't seem like much, if it becomes a habit it can be a big help.
