Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Meat and Its Impact On Our Carbon Footprints.

Upon seeing my results, I noticed that mine was incredibly low compared to my peers. This was because of my lack of eating any meat or dairy products, in other words I am a vegetarian and lactose intolerant, (all for health reasons). Eating meat increases our carbon footprint by large amounts. This is because forests are being cut down for land for cows and other animal slaughterhouses. This is giving us less oxygen. The slaughterhouses are animal killing factories producing large amounts of carbon into our air. This meat is then transported hundreds of miles in large gas guzzling semis, which produces more carbon. Not only does the meat industry produce carbon fill in the air, it destroys trees, that produce oxygen. My suggestion is if you do eat meat, to eat local farm fresh produce that hasn't traveled too far and wasn't produced in large factories. Thank you for reading.
