Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Shopping Spree
When we go shopping we need to have more awareness on how much packaging is used for the product, the transportation that goes into it, and if the company supports cruel acts such as animal testing. Although most people think if they don’t do anything bad they aren’t part of the problem, but by not doing anything it also adds to the problem. By just being conscious of the problems we have we can make a big impact.
Yea I agree, plastic is used to package so much and we really don't need it. It just uses more oil than necessary. As Emma said, we just need to be conscious.
I agree that being conscious of these things have a big impact, but we also need to act on these problems. Ways that we can improve them is to buy clothes at thrift stores or buy closed that have already been used. We can also go to stores that we know sell clothes that are locally made, or at least made in the country we live. This way the shipping of the items will not put more CO2 into the atmosphere.
I agree. We should try and buy things that have a lot of packaging or try and buy things that use recycled packaging. Also to be conscientious of where the clothes are being made and if it is sustainable. For example, Lush is against animal cruelty and their packaging is recycled. They actually prefer for you to bring them back when you're finished. Also as Sara said, we need to act on these problems.
I do agree with what you all are saying about the packaging. However, plastic may not be the biggest problem in the picture. In fact, packaging and the industry don't have an as big affect as transportation does. Here is an article that shows how much gas emissions we release http://climate.dot.gov/about/transporta … rview.html
I also agree that plastics are a large contributor to chemical pollution. More efficient packaging would definitely make a significant impact. In addition, plastics can be dangerous to us, as they contain harmful phallates. The manufacturing and transportation of plastics contributes to CO2 emissions as well, and they take incredibly long amounts of time to biodegrade in a landfill
