Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My own footprint

kristy_y

My transportation emissions are pretty high as i do live a bit far from my school and my way to go to school but in other category's such as my food emissions they're pretty low. But, i do think that my transportation really kills my average on my yearly carbon emissions as its my highest number out of all the category's.  i dunno what to do to do to help reduce my footprint so if you guys have any tips tell me ty

Hi Kristy, yes that's challenging. I guess there is not much publci transportation where you live?  Even if there is not a bus right near you maybe you could ride a bicycle (at least during part of the year) to the nearest bus stop?  If public transportation is not possible for you, then maybe you could try seeing if there are other students with whom you could carpool?

And then if all else fails, and you really have no choice but to take a personal vehicle to school, then don't sweat it, and look for other ways within your control to reduce your impact.  Some ideas are hanging your laundry when it's sunny, using more blankets at night and turning the heat down, and switching out the bulbs in your home to LED.

I agree with you, I also live very far from my school, 20 minutes drive. My transportation emissions are the highest compared to the other ones like food, products etc. One solution is to use Public transportation, like taking a bus, riding ur bike to school, they are all possible solutions to reducing your Carbon Footprint.

I live pretty far from my school as well, personally I have to drive to school so I cut down on driving in other parts of my life when I can walk or bike. Essentially, I prioritize my driving to only necessities and what matters most to me. This lets me cut down on my footprint while being able to still drive to school.
