Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My footprint

Anna.23.06

My total footprint is 9,066 kgs of CO2 per
year, compared to an average of 8,182 for
italy, and 3,791kg worldwide.
My footprint in the home sections is the
highest because i waste water when i
have shower and brush my teeth, i don't
always turn off the light.

Luca P.

Your carbon footprint is good, but it exceeds the national avarage of 8000kg. Instead if we compare your result with the workwide result of 3700kg it's too high. I suggest you to turn off the tap when you brush your teeth or put on shampoo or shower gel, and turn off the lights when you don't use them.

Nice!

Agreeing with Luca!! But also remembering that sustainability is not perfect, so we should only strive to do better. My highest footprint is also in the home section because we use a lot of oil to heat our house

My total footprint is 2300 kgs of CO2, it is low since we are careful with our water and electricity consumption, we eat local, healthy and we try buying food with less packaging. For the transportation we only the bus and my parents use a hybrid car else we walk or we ride a bike. We don't buy much clothes and when they are to small we give them or recycle them.

My total footprint is 16,316 kgs of CO2 compared to an average of 9,727 kgs for California and 3,791 kgs worldwide. I am consciously trying to lower my CO2 emissions, but with all the traveling I do its difficult. My school is a 20 minute drive there and back each day in a gas car, and I drive 30 minutes there and back everyday for sports practice. My family also takes many airplane trips every year. My second biggest category is Home, because I often leave the lights and water on. I don't purchase new cloths that much, so my purchases category is not that big. I hope I can improve my life style so I can drop my emissions below 10,000.
