Now that we see what our collective and personal impact is on the planet, let's think big!
What big and bold ideas do you have for reducing personal, community, country and even global carbon footprints?
Use this space to develop and discuss your big ideas! Who knows- maybe one of these ideas can be the next key solution to the global climate challenge!

We need to use more public transport or bicycle or go walking.
We need to use more public transport or bicycle or go walking.
We have to make less trash.
We have to turn off the light when we don´t use it.
I agree with your opinion. If more people instead of have a car ride dedice to take a bus to go to work, or even use a bike if the workplace isn’t too far, I’m sure air quality will increase.
completely agree, also eletric bike and eletric scooter can be really good
I agree totally with u, in fact i stop to go to school for example with the car and now i only go with my bike. I also use it for go out with my friends or to go to the gym.
I completely agree with this, as someone who uses a bike to go around for most travel around time its a nice way to travel and stay healthy while keeping carbon emmissions low.
I completely agree, transportation is one of the greatest contributors to carbon emissions, and if we cut down on that, it’ll definitely be one of the more effective ways to cut down on peoples personal emissions heavily
I agree that we should be more aware of what emissions we are putting into the atmosphere, and public transportation is a great way to do that, but in some regions of the world, public transportation/riding a bike is not very practical or simply not possible. This is why I think that electric vehicles are a big part of the solution to this problem, because they are so much more gas-efficient (if they even require gas) and do not put anywhere close to as much carbon through emissions into the atmosphere as gas-powered cars.
Coming from a place where there is little to no public transportation and the weather doesn’t always permit riding a bike or walking, i think we should definitely start using EVs but we should also institute some public transportation and if that public transportation could be electrically powered that’s even better too. I certainly agree that more public transportation (bikes or paved sidewalks for walking) at ready access to everyone would help shrink the carbon footprint of those who use them. While I think EVs could be a solution to our mainly fuel-based travel, they are more expensive outright (though these numbers are trending lower!).
For students in any form of education, especially if they live on or near campus, having their university rent out bikes during warm months for a small fee could be an option. The school would collect money from kids who ride the bikes and use it to fund other areas of education where their carbon footprint could be reduced (creating a composting system, working towards purchasing solar panels or a windmill, supporting local farms/markets).
I completely agree! As someone who lives in a more rural part of the U.S., our public transportation is minimal to nonexistent. In the 20s and 30s, with the advent of mass car production, the auto industry lobbied for policies that led to the dismantling of public transportation and reliance on personal cars in the U.S. This is largely the reason for why people today, especially in rural areas, are so dependant on personal vehihicles. It was the big industries way of making sure consumers would be dependent on their product. This necessity on cars means more cars are made and shipped around the world. It means more cars are on the road and are contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and inturn, impacting our planet. With the rise of EVs people are now making personal decisions to switch, but we are still carrying the necessity of personal vehicles.
Many countries have a robust and convenient public transportation system, which significantly reduces carbon emissions. For example, in Italy, no matter how rural your town may be, there is a bus within walking distance that will take you to larger population centers where you will find additional busses, trains etc. So from any part of Italy, you can take public transportation to any other part of Italy -- or to most of Europe.
A comprehensive, convenient and efficient public transportation system that runs on green electric energy would make a significant impact in reducing carbon emissions in our country. A cultural shift would also need to happen to shift from our reliance on person vehicles.
