Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
We really need what we want?
I think we buy more things that we really need and this has a serious environmental impact. We should stop buying things that we don't need only because it's cool or is it fashionable.
I totally agree with you. Specially we Europeans have this necessity to buy unnecessary things because some random advertisement told us that we need some useless new high-tech object. When I want something I usually ask myself if I really need it or if I'm acting impulsively.
We don't really need to buy something, but we want to buy something. We can find all we need in nature (food, water...). However, in our society everything is turned to money and we have to go the supermarket or other shops. In shops, everything is made to attract people to sell and earn more money, so buying only what we need is complicated. We are destroyng our planet because what we want is more important for us than what we need.
I really like this idea of what we really need vs what we want. I agree with you on the level of buying things just cause they look cool or just cause you are into that type of thing, but it really does affect our environment. It's not just products that look cool and there's not really any use for them, but there are products people buy every single day that just ruin the environment such as plastic. Plastic can not only kill animals, but it also affects global warming. It uses these chemicals which come from gas, oil, and coal. However, you can prevent this by using items such as reusable water bottles, and reusable grocery bags. Using this is another step toward getting closer to helping our earth become a more clear environment.
I totally agree with you. I also think that people need to switch their plastic items for some more eco friendly, reusable or recyclable ones. On the other hand, the plastic items are a lot more economic and it might be harder for low class families to make that change. But, whoever has the ability to consumme less plastic should do it.
