Overconsumption and it's negative effects on climate change

ElijahRandle

Overconsumption isn't as simple as just buying too many of one thing. Overconsumption can be ones lifestyle that is based on over consuming in the pursuit of comfort or happiness. People feel that having more things makes them happier, however they don't realize that these things often are packed in plastic and many other harmful materials that contribute to global warming. Sometimes this over consuming can root from a neglect for the health of the environment and just wanting to have a lot of things, or can come from being ignorant about the effects mass consumption has. Evidence from "More stuff=More climate change," by Environmental Science Journal for Teens, states that consumption is dependent on wealth and those who are more wealthy more often have a larger carbon footprint. This evidence shows that those who are financially able to consume more, do and are often ignorant and or not caring about their impact on the planet. Lastly, something any of us can do to help stop over consumption is to support brands that have less or eco friendly packaging and to spread the word about overconsumption and it's negative effects.
