"More stuff = more climate change?"
In general, the more wealthy someone is, the higher chance that they will consume more goods, which impacts carbon emissions. When someone can afford to do so, the more shopping, eating, and travel they will partake in throughout their lives. Additionally, consuming and purchasing items results in the emissions of greenhouse gases during their production and transport. According to the article "More stuff = more climate change?" by the Environmental Science Journal Teens, wealthier countries, such as the United States and Luxembourg have some of the largest carbon footprints in the world. This is directly because citizens have more money to consume more goods that contribute to climate change. Since these countries have the funds, they must advertise and promote more sustainable lifestyles. This could include growing one's own food, thrift shopping, or reusing water bottles. In conclusion, people need to consider how to reduce their carbon footprint, and this could come in many forms, the main one being less consumption.
