Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Deforestation
I found an article about how deforestation is at the top of the leading causes of climate change. In the article, the speed at which we are taking down forests is causing major climate change because the shortage of trees is leaving more carbon dioxide in the air. Instead of the trees and other plants absorbing that carbon dioxide, it is staying in the atmosphere which traps more heat causing the warming. To do our part in stopping the increasing deforestation, we can conserve as much paper products as possible, meaning use every part of a paper to write on, save paper grocery bags to reuse for packing your lunch or taking to the grocery store again to reuse. Always be mindful of how much waste you are creating because if you are aware then you are capable of decreasing your paper waste.
We can also cut down on paper usage in school because it can take up to 24 trees to create one ton of paper, and that is a big waste of trees since we can now do things over the internet. Turning in paper copies of assignments is inconvenient and bad for nature.
This is definitely true. Using too much paper is a major contributing factor to our carbon footprints. One solution could be to use recycled paper. The amount of paper going to landfills has declined by nearly half since the year 2000, falling from an estimated 41 million tons to about 21 million tons in 2014. It is an option which is feasible and good for our environment.
