Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Transportation in Mobiles

How can I save more fuel from transportation mostly from going to school and coming back home? My parents take separate cars to go to work, how can they decrease their carbon footprint as well?
The distance from my school and my home is 5.4 kilometers which is approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

To save more energy, maybe your parents can share the same car and stop each time when they arrive to their spot. Instead of using 2 cars, 1 car will help reduce carbon dioxide released. When they share the same car, less carbon will be releases which helps preventing us from more global heat. A average car realeses about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Conserving fuel you can take the subway or mrt which will save energy and carbon dioxide that is produced. Subway/MRT do not produce any carbon dioxide which is better than driving a car. The average car produces about 12,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year, it is  an amount that would be offset by 242 tropical trees.

Yes, I agree that taking the MRT/Subway is much better than driving a car because of the fact that MRTs and Subways don’t produce any carbon dioxide. Although, sometimes having a car is much better. Here’s why, if you have a car you wouldn’t have to always pay for every ride you take and you can be on time and faster because on the MRT for example, they make a stop and almost every location which makes the chance of you being late for school or work even higher. So, the best thing to do to save fuel is to either walk or try to use less of your transportation at home and spend some money once in a while on the MRT/Subway.
