Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Be thankful for and appreciate everything you have
Some people are very spoiled and get to choose from ten options, while some people only have a few choices or don't even have any. So when you have earned something, treasure it, protect it, treat it well. Sometimes when you go shopping and want to buy things, think of this first: Do I really need it? Is it necessary? Or do I just want to have fun with this thing? etc.
Think first of what you really need, maybe you spent money on unnecessary things when you could actually be doing things with that money such as donating it to the poor or stray animals.
I hope everyone puts at least a bit thought into this, feel free to comment here and share your thoughts! Thank you!
I strongly agree with this we should be thankful for what we get instead of being spoiled lots of kid doesn't even get anything they want.
I agree with this a lot !! It sucks seeing kids either featured on TV and on videos online being so spoiled and ungrateful for what they have, and it's always (or at least most of the time) people who have too much money for their own good. I'd say I use the money I have wisely, and I don't spend it on the first thing I see at a store that I want, I always think and ask myself, "will I really use this often?" That way of thinking has always helped me control how much money I spend on unnecessary items!
I strongly agree with this statement! Social media platforms such as YouTube have such a big influence on today's youth. As an example, there are influencers who dwell on the opportunity of purchasing whatever they desire, and the younger audience gets influenced by the "wanting" lifestyle. Moreover, I love how you talked about going through a thinking process to determine if you or I really "need" something. Something I'd like to add is that when we want something, we should all have the mindset of being selfless rather than self-centered, as I believe this will help us discover the bigger picture.
I completely agree, and especially with clothes. It feels as though there is always a "new" and "trendy" item that society has pushed upon us. The hazardous part with this is the creating of fast fashion, although cheap for buyers, the amount of consequences it has for A) the people creating the garments, and B) the environment. The people creating the garment, are being treated unfairly with their wages, exploited, forced to work many hours. The environment also must suffer, such as needing about 700 gallons to create one cotton shirt and 2000 gallons for a pair of jeans, plastics also becoming a problem because of packing, polyester and nylon which take more than a 100 years to biodegrade, and also creates lots of waste. Although we can not stop these fast fashions from taking place we can take our time to find brands that are environmentally sustainable although it might not be the cheapest, it will last longer and be a more green option. Another solution if you don't have the money to pay for expensive sustainable clothes, you can get clothes from second hand stores and thrift stores! And when you grow out of your clothes, you can give them to somebody new like a friend, cousin, younger sibling or even a charity to give to the homeless or somebody who needs it. With this fast fashion society we must learn to adapt and advocate for new ways to challenge this "fashion" and do our part even in the smallest ways like donating out grown shoes and giving it to somebody who needs it.
