Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Trash, Recycling or Compost

bod7sm

When you are throwing something away, make sure it goes into the correct bin. Paper and plastic bottles - recyclable. Plastic bags and broken supplies (metals, plastic) - trash. Orange peels and unwanted food - compost.

EllaVA

I agree. By sorting your waste into the correct bins, it is easier for things to be reused and disposed of correctly. Also, by buying food that had little to no packaging, you can greatly reduce the amount of things you waste.

I agree, Bishop O'dowd makes it very easy with the color coding cans.  But we all need to slow down and not rush, making sure it goes in the right bin.

I agree. This method is used in plenty of places but its up to us to make a difference. By taking a couple seconds to put everything into place you can make a difference. Putting up signs of what belongs helps a lot to know what goes where.

B-Money

Yes, I strongly agree! There should be all separate cans for different categories of trash.

Britney_Salas

I strongly agree with what you are saying because many people put the items they are throwing away in the incorrect bin. They do not stop and think about what goes in what. If people continue this pattern more often, the environment will not be sustainable. Our actions depend on what will happen in the future.

bod_noah

I agree with both Sarah and Ella. Putting the right items in the right bins is an easy way for keeping our environment clean and healthy.

And don't forget that almost everything served in the cafeteria is compostable!
