Think Big-Nuclear Energy

tomart8677

Nuclear Fission is an amazing way to pave a path for our planet to using zero-emission renewable energy. So what is it exactly? Well it a source of energy that is produced through the process of fission, the splitting of uranium atoms. The heat produced from this process is used to create steam that then spins a turbine (a giant mechanical wheel) which generates electricity. It can protect air quality as it does not produce any harmful pollutants that can cause severe air pollution such as smog. Even though it may seem it costs a lot of money to create and maintain these facilities, it is worth it. Firstly, nuclear energy has the highest capacity factor out of all the other alternatives to generating energy. The capacity factor just means the overall maximum output, so nuclear energy produces the maximum energy 92% of the time each year. Now compare this with the maximum output of fossil fuels, which is just 40%. Nuclear energy facilities also require much less maintenance, as they are designed to operate for long periods of time. Now there might be worries on the radioactive waste that is being produced. Well, this waste is extremely dense with energy and can still be reused for energy, but storing it is easy as there is not much to store, and thick concrete walls are enough to hold the waste in place.
