Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
What you want, differs from what you need
As a child, have you and your guardian ever passed through the toy section as you were on your way to grab some ingredients for tonight's dinner, however on your way to the produce section a certain toy catches your eye? You then proceed to ask your guardian for the pacific toy as you “needed” to have it, but after been given a firm no you continue to beg for it till it’s yours. While this wasn’t the case for everyone, it is for some. In the scenario above, you as a child needed this toy, and at the time it might've been your number one priority, but it’s really seen as a want since you didn’t have to purchase the toy as it’s something you could live without. However, the food that you and your guardian had originally gone to the store to pickup is a need since it truly does provide and is something that you can’t really live without. To sum up what had been said, a want is something that you desire, something that you can live without, but a need is something that is actually is able to benefit you and something that you can’t really live without.
I agree with the explanation that demonstrates the difference between “wants and needs”, and the creative example of using toys at the grocery store to explain this concept.

I also agree to this and thought this was a very well thought out example on needs and wants. The toy analogy not only highlighted what is important to the story but also kept it extremely simple for most readers to comprehend.
I fully agree with this argument. It is well-supported and explained. In our lives, we must distinguish our actual needs from our wishes. Avoid unnecessary carbon footprints and protect our planets.
