Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

On a small scale, any one can improve their own carbon footprint. Carbon footprint can be improved by making better choices with the foods you eat, the goods you purchase, the electricity you use, and the transportation you take. Improving your diet can make you feel happier and healthier, and impact your carbon footprint on the world. Eating less meat, especially beef, and opting for more eco-friendly options such as chicken or vegetables. Purchasing less new things and buy used things from thrift stores also improves your carbon footprint. Using less electricity by waiting to use the dishwasher until its completly full, or hand washing dishes every once in a while could also help. Opting for biking or walking instead of taking a car can also improve your carbon footprint. If every one pitches in, even in a small way, it greatly improves not only your carbon footprint, but your communities.
