Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Solar Panels

calgibs

The simple fact of the matter is that humans use to much electricity. Whether it's keeping a plug in the outlet when it's not in use or keeping the tv running when no one is there. You should try to keep these to a minimum as much as possible or not even do it. Because so much energy is being wasted it would be great if we could use solar panels it it was a regular thing. Although they are expensive they save a lot of money in they long run.

Yes, using solar panels are expensive and they are a form of clean energy but they are non-continuous form of energy. This can pose a problem. When it is raining or cloudy or even foggy it can cause interruption in the generation of electricity. Energy can also not be created during nighttime hours. In my opinion a better option to this would be to like you said reduce the amount of energy we use and to also use more nuclear power. My thoughts are Nuclear power is it much cleaner than the other non-renewables sources of energy and it is a continuous form of energy. Nuclear power plants have extremely high regulations so there are not really many environmental effects from them. Solar panels on the other hand have been proven to harm birds. They can kill birds. Check out this link on how the solar panels has affected birds. http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic … ten-birds/
