Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention the "if it's yellow let it mellow" saying. Do people actually do this? Honestly,it seems kind of nasty but I'm just wondering.

I knew someone who did this, but I myself do not do this. I tried one time, but then I kept on forgetting.

My dad works at a water plant, so during the 2008 drought he made us use this method. In 2008 water levels where really low. The region where I live went through major water restrictions. The water levels were close enough to being low enough for water rations. Thank goodness for the rain that came towards the end of the summer. For every flush you make you waste 3 to 5 gallons of water.(Unless you have a newer toilet and that is 1 and a half gallons of water). Yes, this is extremely gross, but I think I was the only one in my family that had a problem with it. We only used this method during the drought but this is a very effective way to limit water use. But if you don’t want to go to the extremes to save water you can do the little things like turning your water off while you brush your teeth and to only run a full dishwasher and to take shorter showers.
