Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

What are some of the leading causes to climate change.

lutaBOD

Global warming is caused primarily by human activities, including the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural practices. According to NASA, carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have increased by 47% since the Industrial Revolution, largely due to the burning of fossil fuels. Deforestation has also contributed to global warming, as trees absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis, and their loss reduces the planet's ability to absorb carbon dioxide. Additionally, National Geographic notes that agricultural practices contribute to global warming by releasing methane. These human-induced factors have led to an increase in global temperatures, which has resulted in numerous changes in the Earth's climate patterns, such as melting glaciers and sea level rise.
