Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Decreasing Transportation

katherinesilvey

When looking at my own personal carbon footprint it shows a tremendous number but when looking closer it shows that transportation is my biggest contributor to that number. If people like me who tend to travel a lot not only by car but also by plane could find a way to decrease that number by traveling in a more energy efficient way we could decrease our carbon footprint drastically. If people were to start carpooling even just a couple days a week it would help decrease that number.

I agree. I tend to go places a lot to see my friends, go shopping, or go out to eat. I think to decrease this you could ride your bike to places that are close by or even as simple as riding with your friends to school instead of using so many cars.

When traveling nearby, ride your bike or carpool with someone. Transportation is a big contributor to my calculation & I could do the same thing.
