Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint (Mooresville, North Carolina ,United States)
My name is Dillon, I am 17 years old and I am a Junior at Mooresville High School, in Mooresville, North Carolina. When I calculated my carbon footprint, I was quite surprised at the results. My transportation footprint was a solid 163 kilograms. This makes sense, as I do not drive often, and I ride my skateboard to pretty much any destination I desire. However, when going long distances, I try to carpool with the most amount of people I can, in order to save gas and energy. My home footprint was 3053 kilograms, this surprised me, as my family doesn't typically do anything special to keep our footprint low. I did notice however, that when I said I always turn lights off when leaving a room, my footprint dropped dramatically. My food carbon footprint was 2,024 kilograms, which is within one thousand kilograms of the average. This makes sense, considering I eat like a normal human being, and attempt to take the right amounts of food from each food group. However I would like to start composting after my completion of this project, considering the fact that saying I didn't compost made my footprint go up dramatically. The final footprint that was measured was purchases. Now, my purchasing footprint was a minuscule 1,230 kilograms. This is strictly because I hardly ever buy new clothes, and almost always shop at consignment shops. My overall carbon footprint was 6,470 kilograms, less than half the average for my area. This surprised me greatly because I assumed, being a human being, that my carbon footprint would be excessively high. I was astounded to discover that no only is my carbon footprint not higher than the average for my region, but it is actually noticeably lower. In this future, I plan to compost more, use more CFL lightbulbs, and actually make an effort to better the environment. If we do not step up and attempt to make a change, no one will.
