Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Create Your Own Garden
Today, most people buy there food from their local grocery stores however there is a much more efficient and cheaper way to get food. When food is bought from a grocery store there is a lot of waste created that takes a toll on our environment. We waste a lot of paper and plastic from wrappers on the food we buy and a lot of gas is used to bring the food to our local grocery stores. However, we can prevent a lot of this waste by growing our own food at home. Growing your own food can not only be fun and healthy but it can drastically reduce the amount of waste we create. My family and I grow herbs and lemons in our back yard which we share with our neighbors to help reduce the amount of pollution in society.
I agree that growing food from home is an environmentally better way to get our food. The packaging and transportation add a lot of unnecessary carbon into our atmosphere. But some people don't live in a place where they can grow their own food. I think the companies that package the food in the grocery stores could package the food with less plastic packaging. That way, even if buying food from a grocery store is a necessity, it would be better for the earth.
Thats a great idea! Also, for those who don't live in a great place to grow there own food or just don't have time another great way to reduce the amount of carbon in our atmosphere is to buy food from local companies and farmer markets. This can reduce the amount of carbon because the food we eat doesn't have to be shipped from miles away. Also, home grown/ farmers market food doesn't go through large factories that can create an excessive amount of carbon. I typically go to the farmers market and buy local food which is a simple thing to do that can drastically reduce the amount of pollution in society.
Wonderful thought sabela. Making your own garden is very helpful to yourself and to your community. The only downside is you have to wait for everything to grow. But making your own food makes life a lot easier. You dont have to take long trips to the store, its organic, and it declines the amount of waste produced by you a lot.
This is an awesome idea with lots of benefits, but you have to wait for the food to grow and sometimes people aren't available to places to plant a garden and you have to go to the store and spend money on these vegetables/fruits that could cost a lot of money at times. And the weather isn't always perfect for growing these things.
i agree
