Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Chase Alexander Carbon Footprint

chase_a

My name is Chase, I am from Mooresville, North Carolina. My total for my carbon footprint was 16,652 kgs. It mostly came from transportation for going to school and having after school sports as soccer and track. I could lower this by riding my bike but farther away from school so would have to get up earlier and leave earlier to make it. Soccer practice is held too far away to bike there in time.

That is a large footprint number and I never ride bikes.

I think that is a great idea riding your bike to school and your total footprint was higher than mine.

You doubled my footprint and added some on, the bike idea is a good idea but since you're a track star you should just run to school

My carbon footprint was higher than that because of transportation as well. However, carpooling would be a great alternative! Either way, you will need to make it to soccer or track, but so do your friends so you might as well conserve together and go as a group for less gas and mileage. Also, if you could invest in an energy efficient vehicle, maybe a car that will save gas and use electricity instead? All good alternatives.
