Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Drought in California

laurenmurphy

Though we've had exceptionally more rain than usual, that doesn't mean California's drought is necessarily over. Takepart's news article on California's drought goes to show that central and south California are suffering most. Bay area and towards the north are in less of a sever condition.

Being from California that's true. here's what I've found about the drought and the wildfires

Climate change is real. It’s been proven over and over again and no matter what the

politicians say it is there and it’s real. Climate change is having a huge impact on our earth and

in many different ways. It’s causing all kinds of flooding in louisiana, tornadoes in Oklahoma,

Longer snow seasons than ever before in New England and Minnesota, and landslide in Washington state. These are all very serious but in my writing I want to talk about how climate change is causing bigger and badder wildfires for much longer.

Climate change is making huge wildfires in California. This has been happening in California for hundreds of years, but recently there have been three times as many wildfires as normal and this is because the drought were in has made everything there yellow and dry and yes very, very flammable. So when an irresponsible person decides to light a firework, only the tiniest ember is needed to ignite a fire and because it basically has endless supply of a round it, it can grow to an incomprehensible size. These massive fires can do serious damage to California’s crops, water, houses, and even people. Even right now as i'm typing there are twelve fires ablaze here and one that is super close to Santa Cruz, where lot’s of people live.

Climate change is a huge deal and can prove to be very deadly. Different states are all feeling it, but some in different ways than others. In California they’re feeling through fires that destroy homes and buildings and that leave nothing behind. If Climate change isn’t combatted right now in the future instead of twelve fires it will be twenty, some the size of maybe even Rhode Island. To prevent this we need to get world leaders to sign deals, to help build quotas that will lower the impact of Climate change and all it’s harmful power.
