Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Good or Bad, Aerosols?

tylerpagela

People are attempting to slow the effects of global warming. However, they may doing more harm than good. They are attempts to reverse the impacts of global warming by injecting reflective particles into the stratosphere could make matters worse, according to researchers. They experimented by injecting aerosols into the stratosphere that is supposed to replicate the cooling effects of volcanoes.
However, injecting these reflective particles are still within the realm of possibility. They just are last resorts. As it, could cut rainfall in the tropics by 30%, which would leave these places in a drought, potentially a severe one. The cooling effect of volcanoes erupts reflective particles, aerosols, as I said earlier. They could potentially reflect solar radiation away from the Earth, if released in the stratosphere. http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-25639343 is a good resource for more information.
