Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Forum: What Country Causes the Most CO2 Emissions?

timkim

China leads the world for most Co2 emitter of 8715.31 million metric tons in 2011, according to Eia.org. This makes sense since China is the world’s factory and those factories produce so much co2 into the air. China also produces the most coal in the world and their huge power plants are coal-based. China also has the biggest population in the world of 1 billion and each person emitted 6.52 metric tons in 2011. The U.S is the second biggest co2 emitter, but emits almost 25% less than China with 5490.63 million metric tons, however each person produced 17.62 metric tons in 2011, this is due to the lavish lifestyle and abundance of Americans compared to the frugal and impoverished Chinese people. If you look at the graph on UCS.com you will see that China emits so much Co2 that the other countries look as if they are not even harming the planet with thir puny Co2 emmision stats.
