Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Ocean acidification

Global warming is affecting the environment if we don’t stop releasing excessive amounts of carbon dioxide into the environment. This is affecting the ocean by lowering the pH, and leading to the extinction of the marine species. Every day, about 20 million tons of carbon dioxide is released into the environment, and about 35 billion tons are released each year. About half of the carbon dioxide released into the environment is absorbed by the ocean. If we do not act upon this, this will become a deadly situation for the ocean. Many more marine species will become extinct because of the pH lowering everyday. Then the shells of many species would dissolve due to the drop of pH levels.
Some ways we can prevent ocean acidification is burning less fossil fuels. One major cause of Ocean acidification is the burning of fossil fuels, and the ocean absorbing the carbon dioxide. If humans began to use wind power and solar panels as a source of energy, instead of burning fossil fuels. Another way we can prevent the oce an's pH level dropping is to not travel by plane often. If one travels some place near by, then no need to travel by plane. He could drive a car, more preferable a hybrid car.
