Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Is climate change real?

harnoor193

I think climate change is real. I think that climate is changing rapidly for countries in Asia, here in America climate change is minimal so many people accept that nothing happens to our climate but that is not the truth scientists have found that global temperature has increased rapidly and significantly. We are also seeing that these changes will continue into the future. Carbon dioxide is produced when humans burn gasoline, natural gas, and coal to produce electricity and drive cars, trains, ships, and aircraft. This carbon dioxide is the major factor responsible for warming the atmosphere. The climate is changing everyday so we have to do something about it because now it may not seem that severe but in the long run if this continues humanity may not exist. The Earth's climate has changed throughout history. Just in the last 650,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat, with the abrupt end of the last ice age about 7,000 years ago marking the beginning of the modern climate era — and of human civilization. Most of these climate changes ar e attributed to very small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives. So we have to act now or we will pay the price in the future.
Climate change in a country could have an effect over an entire continent as if a climate change happens in a country and that country becomes very cold or hot the animals would migrate fromthere and when they move to a different country they will carry diseases and some species may e also making life harder for other organisms.
I know that only one person can not make a difference but if we all try our best to conserve our environment maybe we can make a difference. It is possible to prepare for climate change and to avert the worst effects of it, but to do so we need to understand why climate change is happening and make informed choices as individuals and communities based on the scientific evidence. We should research ourselves and get involved in this matter.
