Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Simple Ways To Make Transportation Environment Friendly

kaitlynn-carrollst-agnes-org

There are so many easy ways to make everyday travel more environment friendly. You can ride your bike if your traveling a short distance and that will not only cut down on the car fuel being put into our air, but will also increase physical health through exercise. Another easy option is to walk short distances instead of driving. A very simple idea is to shop online. Why use all of the car fuel needed to drive to possibly more than one store to find the item you need, when you could stay at home and save your car fuel for when you really need it? If possible you can try to occasionally work from home to save that extra bit of car fumes. Of course, this would have to be discussed with your boss, but if you can, it would be a great alternative to driving to work everyday when you could get the same work done from home. Many students in my school, including myself, drive to and from school in a carpool. Less cars driving equals less car fumes in our atmosphere. Think of how much of our air we can save by just doing our part and driving one car with five people instead of f ive cars all with only one person. I think the most interesting idea that I found from this site was to record your trips. All you have to do is jot down the number of miles and the type of transportation to get there (train, plane, car, etc.). Then when you are planning your next couple of vacations, you can look back at your other trips from that year, and maybe decide which ones aren't as important to go on. This will save our air so much, from a single roundtrip plane ride or even just a car drive to the mall.
