Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint - Brian B

brianb

My name is Brian and I am 17 years old. I am from Mooresville, North Carolina in the United States. I expected my footprint to be a little lower than other people in my country or at least average because I don’ t do very much. My footprint was only 9075. I was way under the average for the rest of my class but I was still very high compared to the entire world average. I didn’t do much traveling throughout the year so I don’t have much in the transportation department but we tend to run our air conditioning and heat more than usual. My lowest was in purchases because I don’t really buy that many new clothes or go buy clothes at all. A lot of the stuff is older typically or cheaper stuff that is already used. After I graduate high school I plan on going to a 4 year college and studying in engineering. I think to decrease my carbon footprint I can tone back the air conditioning and heating in the future.

*Darth Vader Voice*:  I find your lack of carbon disturbing.

Wait, uh... I mean, I'm really impressed by your lower carbon footprint.  Especially here in the US, it's easy to rack up a high carbon footprint.  See my post for an example.  That's great that you can have such a low (comparatively) footprint.  Keep up the good work.
