Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Recycling

lauren-p

I've noticed a lot of people throw all of their waste in the trash. It would help sustain better with more recycling. We're working on it now with paper and plastic, but there are so many things that we could reuse. I live close to a recycling plant which we give most of are waste to. They are able to recycle plastic, paper, aluminum, glass, and foam. Most recycling programs only choose one of those. If we were able to recycle more, we could sustain a lot more waste and use it for better purposes. This would lower the waste build up which will keep water and natural resources cleaner and will help slowly stabilize ecological chains. We could do thing like make reusable water bottles, or we could start reshaping the glass into new windows or bottles. If we can use programs with more ways to recycle, we could give back to the environment what we took from it.
