Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Needs and wants are a big factor in what your carbon footprint is. I think that having a cell phone is a need, but the type of cell phone you have is a want. In this century everyone wants the nicest and newest thing. You do not need the best thing. You also do not need all of the clothes that you WANT. Just because your friends or a family member has a new phone or new clothes does NOT mean that YOU need it. I think that my carbon footprint was average because I know how to balance out what I buy and how many times I use it. I usually wear a couple pairs of shoes for a year and then wear them out and then buy new ones. What is everyone else's thoughts on this?
