Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint

meganbornkamp

My name is Megan Bornkamp. I am 15 years old and from Mooresville, NC, USA. My carbon footprint was 66,136. This is way above average. The majority of my footprint came from transportation because I travel 90 miles, round trip, to Charlotte and back for soccer practice, twice a week. I thought my results would be lower but I knew they would be high, I just didn't think they would be that high. I learned that I need to limit driving in a car. To decrease my footprint in the future, I can drive less, use more efficient light bulbs, and shop less.

Although your score is very high, I like how you are wanting to improve this by lessening your transportation. Do you believe there is a way to do this, due to soccer being so far away?
