Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint

Kailey

My name is Kailey Newell, I am from Mooresville, North Carolina in the USA and I am 15 years old. My total carbon foot print is 9,465. This is below average from my regions footprint which is 15,918. I wasn’t surprised by my number because my family doesn't travel a lot due to being from the area. My highest category was food at 4,077. I think this because we use our stove and range as well as the grill 5/7 days of the week. To try to lower my footprint I will try to take shorter showers and try to eat a wider variety of foods.

Some things you can do to help reduce it is turn the water off when brushing your teeth, or something like taking showers when washing your body, it also helps keep warm water available but what helps a lot too is eating more fruits and vegetables .
