Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

A trouble in Cheste.

Carmeen

People who live in Cheste have to use their own cars more often than other people. There are only two means of transport: train and bus, and both of them have a very poor timetable. That's why public transportation is not very useful here, and we prefer using our own vehicles.
Nowadays, traffic fumes are one of the worst environmental problems. For this reason, I think that governments should improve and give us more facilities to use public transports.

hodin

What you describe is also a big problem all over the USA, especially in small and medium sized towns.  It's what we call a "catch-22": not enough people ride the bus or train, so they are not very frequent; and because they are not very frequent, few people ride the bus or train...

Ultimately, I think that cities and regions need to just invest in good transit to prepare for the future.  To quote another phrase: "Build it and they will come"!
