Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint

savannah101101

My total carbon footprint is 8990 kg of CO2 per year. My highest kg category is my Home at 3561 kg. It is so high because we use a lot of electricity in our house. Also, my Food category is over average in our area. That may be because we eat a lot of meat and not all our food is local. My Purchases category is significantly below average. That is probably because I don't go out and buy new clothes a lot. I don't go out much and buy much of anything. My Transportation category is pretty close to average. I do drive a lot ad hangout with friends, that's most likely why my transportation is close to average. I also drive myself to school every morning and I live about 10 miles from the school.

Fixing my Home category may include reducing the water usage within my house. Also, reducing the hours our lights are on during the day would help to reduce the carbon footprint. To fix the food category would include going vegetarian more times a week and purchasing food th at is more local. My Transportation could be reduced if I took the bus to school and also if I didn't go out much after school and on the weekends.
