Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint was low. But in the food category it was kinda high. For food I got 2890 kg for home I got 1649 kg in transportation I got 412 kg and purchases it was 454 kg. So mine was a little lower then average. I will be trying to lower my footprint for food.

Isabelle,

I'm from Seattle and I use to go our your way all the time. There are some good places to get some nice home grown foods out there. You might look at shopping at the farmer's markets and getting some of the veggies and fruits. They will help lower your kg and improve your health too. I missed my grandmother's backyard garden that would fill our table all summer and winter with veggies and preserves. She had everything from plumbs, cherries, rhubarb, strawberries, blackberries, grapes, raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, peas, bush beans, oh my I could go on for ever... and the huckleberries too.

You can't go wrong with that plan. Keep up the good work.

I am from the US, and my footprint is much higher than average. Mine is due to transportation. How are you planning to lower your food score? Maybe if you eat out at restaurants a lot and grill a lot, that could be contributing to the high score. Cooking your own food and staying in might help!
